Our
graduate assistantships are competitive and are one-year appointments,
although many students do continue into a second year. The School of
Education (SOE) has a varying number that might be available any given
year (usually two to three) depending on current Graduate Assistants
(GA's) and where they are in their program work.
To be eligible for an assistantship, the student has to be admitted to
an SOE graduate program (and stay in good standing to keep the
assistantship). The GA's are chosen by their respective departments.
The assistantship provides the following:
•
$4,500 stipend for the year ($500/month for nine-month assistants and
$375/month for twelve-month assistants).
•
Eighteen hours of graduate tuition waiver (nine-month assistants: nine
hours Fall and nine hours Spring; twelve-month assistants: six hours
Summer, six hours Fall, six hours Spring).
•
With an assistantship, the student provides 20 hours a week of service
to the department on a nine-month assistantship and 15 hours a week of
service on twelve-month assistantship.
• In
the application process, the student submits the GA application, a
letter of interest (outlining the student's background and
experiences), a resume and two letters of recommendation from
professors with whom they have worked.
