This course will help students think critically about volunteerism, reflect on their own volunteer service, discuss social issues and problems that impact the Drake campus, the community or global populations, understand critical issues in service-learning research, and most importantly, develop a service learning project.

EDUC 128/228 Learning in London-Study Abroad--Social Studies Methods
This seminar will provide the opportunity for a unique learning experience. In addition to the pre-seminar examination of elementary education, participants will spend two weeks learning in London, England. Using London's Vandon House Hotel in the "heart of London" as our base, we will venture out to schools in different area of the city and surrounding areas. While these plans are still in-progress, return to this site to get more complete information as arrangements are being made.
While in England, students will have structured learning time, as well as daily free time to explore the some of London's museums, palaces, and landmarks. Bring your sense of adventure and be ready to use your mathematics and social studies skills in this exploratory endeavor. 3.000 Credit Hours


EDUC 214 Contemporary Issues in Education
Students will examine numerous trends, developments, and projections as they have and will impact instrumental theory and practice. Emphasis will be placed onthe effects of these issues on the planning, development, and implementation of effective teaching models. EDUC 220 Balanced Assessment
Develop a broad spectrum of strategies to assess today's learners. This course explores using standarized tests, creating teacher-made tests, and implementing different methods of grading and reporting. Learn how to implement a wide variety of portfolios, design performance rubrics, create journals, use metacognitive strategies, and plan culminating events. Discover how to integrate the use of traditional testing methods with dynamic assessments and develop a balanced assessment plan appropriate to your classroom. 2.000 Credit Hours

FYS 040 Constructionist Teaching & Learning
Content includes theory, application, observation, and analysis of "constructionism," a theory of learning developed by Dr. Seymour Papert, that states that children learn best by making meaningful products and sharing them with others. Students will learn about Dr. Seymour Papert's (M.I.T.) theory of constructionism, practice designing meaningful products themselves using Microworlds© software and Lego/LOGO©, observe and interact with children engaged in making meaningful products, and reflect upon and analyze this theory and practice. 3.000 Credit Hours

ISIT 050 INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (ISIT)
Fluency with Information Technology (IT) is designed to complement the ISIT 040: Information Technology & Creative Change course concepts.
