EDUC 201 is designed to introduce you to the concepts and methods of educational research. This course promotes an inquiry orientation to becoming critical consumers of educational research and reflective decision makers. That is, students will be able to identify, read, interpret, synthesize, and evaluate qualitative and quantitative research reports, and recognize legitimate uses for that information. Topics covered in the course include approaches to inquiry, procedures used in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, as well as critical analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of research reports. Requirements will include preparing a literature review on a topic of your choice.
I will try to keep formal lecture in this course as brief as possible. We will approach it more like a seminar or workshop. Please take the opportunity to make use of the resources available from this Web site, and if you know of any other related information available on the Web, please let me know so that I can add links.
