Coaches and SWIS

In addition, coaches take the lead in preparing the school for data collection through the School-Wide Information System (SWIS™). SWIS is a web-based information system designed to help school personnel to use office referral data to design school-wide and individual student interventions. The three primary elements of SWIS™ are:
• an efficient system for gathering information
• a web-based computer application for data entry and report generation
• a practical process for using information for decision making

Participating schools use a SWIS PBS Readiness Checklist to guide them through the set-up process.

Because PBS is a data-based, decision-making model, collection of data is key. Data are reviewed by the local PBS leadership team on a regular basis and used for decision making regarding changes to the program or for designing interventions.

As of September 1, 2006 the cost of SWIS per building per year is $250. This is a very economical way to gather the necessary data and present it in a format that the teams can easily use.
