Bringing new staff on board and keeping buy-in of present staff:

  • Mentors "PBS Pal"
  • Put them on the PBS Leadership Team
  • Meet with them before school starts - bring treats
  • Share at administrator orientation
  • Provide them with a handbook when hired
  • Make it part of normal routine - teacher workday
  • Have all PBS materials available
  • Make it part of the interview process
  • Make it part of teacher evaluation
  • Inservices
  • Observing teaching of expectations
  • School-wide gatherings that incorporate PBS
  • Building accountability among staff for implementing PBS
    • Survey staff - allow to vent
    • Show the data, show the data
    • Positive mentor
    • Checklist for individuals to self-check routine
    • Link to evaluation - administrative support and part of standards
    • Monitor positive reward tickets - have them sign them
    • Monitor ODRs (major and minor)
    • ACKNOWLEDGE STAFF!!
  • Delegating responsibility so coach is not responsible for everything
    • Distribute 'jobs' among other team members
    • Look to those with flexible schedules
    • Find someone to implement data
    • Use the 'talents' of each person
    • Be willing to do your share
    • Involve staff beyond the team (utilize the resources you have)
  • Getting beyond individual help/support for academics only/utilizing AEA support personnel effectively
    • Begin discussions with special education director or AEA administrators
    • Training with AEA and LEA staff together on individual application
    • Alliance should continue informing AEA Administrators, SAI, etc.
    • AEA, listen to LEAs
  • Facilitate the transition from special education to general education
  • Use inclusive teams (general education teaches ) in problem solving
  • Develop portfolio of interventions
  • Use staff and resources in creative ways
  • Teachers taking more ownership of individual problem behavior
