Questions
and answers generated at a brainstorming session with the coaches and
teams in March 2004.
How do we
improve or encourage more visible administrative support for PBS?
• Celebrate
successes
•
Have team present to school board
•
Remember to invite the principal/superintendent and invite them early
•
Find a role for the
administrator on the team to be a part of it
•
Have administrators attend the training sessions to see how important
this is
•
Have a meeting with that administrator: review cost benefits, state you
need their support to make it a success, identify what support you need
• Ask
the administrator to choose meeting time and day
•
Have Carl or Rob personally invite them to the training sessions
•
Have administrator contact administrators that have attended trainings
(peer to peer contact)
•
Tell the administrator you are working on a project and really need their
help and expertise
•
Remind them of one of the principals of PBS, “won’t work without
administrative support”, need them to make it work
•
Spell out administrator’s role, like the bus driver’s role
•
Cover duties for the administrator so they can come
•
Sit down and visit with them about how important their visibility is
•
Define level of administrative support needed for the new teams
•
Remind them of research-based rationale
